This
food kit has only an amount of food in it that would
sustain life in case of an emergency. There are
many food items that you could put into your kit and
so many different containers that you can use.
We chose this container because it has been our
experience that if you cannot see what is inside your
kit, it is quite possible that you will forget about
it and not remember to rotate it until after the foods
should have been rotated. Being able to see
through the container
was
an advantage. Another reason we picked this
container was that it was light weight and had a
handle that would be easy for a child to carry.
Also, in the kit is a packet of juice mix. The
container would make it easy to mix the juice to
serve. We found our container, a 2 quart juice
pitcher, at the local dollar store so it made an
inexpensive container.
We have
found that because of the many uses of the container
and the food in the kit, many have used the kit for
not only their 72 hour emergency supplies but have
used the kit for scout outings and hiking trips.
Many have put the food kits in the trunks of their
cars in case of an emergency (or just to calm the kids
on a "LONG" road trip). The foods that we put in
the kits are items that will sustain life, give some
energy and we have also included items that act as
comfort foods. We put a "Rotation Date" on the
label and also a note to store the food kit with at
least 2 Liters of Water.
