Outline
of Silent Lesson
Things
to do prior to Silent Lesson:
-
Advertise in monthly newsletter, RS
program, Sacrament Service Program about a special Relief Society
lesson and ask the sisters to remember to bring their
scriptures this day.
-
Make sure you have a TV/VCR or DVD
available to use day of the lesson.
-
Reserve the overhead projector if
you are going to use it plus have pages copied or
printed on transparencies.
-
Copy and put together "Believe"
booklets for each sister in RS.
-
Get extra copies of Bible from
library for those who forget theirs and also plenty of
pens & pencils for the RS women.
-
Get a copy of the video "The Lamb
of God" and have it ready to play at the spot you want
it to start at. About 3/4 through the video is
where Christ is coming through the crowd carrying his
cross. From that point to the end of the film is
about 8-10 min.
-
You will need a CD player to play
the music that goes along with the lesson.
-
Day of lesson, set up the room.
Have it darkened with only lamps to light the room for
soft lighting. Since this is a silent lesson and the
sisters would be quietly reflecting and pondering, we
felt that the darkened room would be good for those
whose emotions may be strong. Have the overhead
projector screen in one corner and the TV/VCR in the
other. We decorated the table with a soft light shining
up on a picture of Christ with soft, white silky
material flowing around the top of the table and around
the base of the picture.
Day of
Lesson:
Only RS Secretary will greet
sisters at the door with program. Program will
have the RS announcements on it and also instructions
for the lesson. It will instruct the sisters that
there will be no speaking, how the program will go and
that when the prelude music is stopped there will be a
2.5 minute of silence for personal silent prayers.
Presidency will be in the room, seated quietly..not
talking. Have the first song "In This Very Room"
on the CD playing (in repeat mode) as the sisters are
arriving.
When it is time to start (it is important that you start
on time because the lesson takes 45-50 minutes to
complete), stop the prelude music and give the sisters
2.5 minutes for personal silent opening prayers.
After the prayer, immediately start the music CD and
follow the program below (I have put down the time of
each song or video clip. Hopefully you will have enough
time to do all of this). The full lesson is 46 minutes
so it is important to start on time and have no
announcements...they should all be on the program so as
not to speak and also not to take the time away from the
lesson. There will always be late comers...just start on
time and have the Secretary stand at the door to motion
the late sisters in quietly. Leave seats empty close to
the door for late comers or sisters with babies to
escape.
-
Immediately after prayer start the
music CD on song #1
(In this Very Room - 4 min).
When song is started you will have (BELIEVE)
Transparency on the overhead. About (1)
minute into the song put Page 1 Transparency on the
overhead (Have you been listening to the song?)
and leave it there through the entire 1st song.
(You will not stop the music CD
until you get to the video portion)
-
Immediately when the 1st song ends,
put Page 2 Transparency (In the scriptures, a young
woman) on the overhead .
(When you change transparencies, that will signal to the
sisters that it is time to turn the page in their
booklets which page is what is on the overhead).
#2 song on the CD (Sleep my Child) will begin as sisters
are reading in their booklets or the overhead (3.5 min).
-
#3 song on CD (Instrumental of
Sleep My Child - 4 min) will start as you change to
transparency Page 3. During this song the sisters
will use their scriptures and write in their booklets.
-
#4 song on CD (Power in His Touch -
4.25 min) will begin as you change to transparency Page
4 (Do you seek a God of Miracles - picture of
Boy/Christ). (I did not do it, but if
you want to you could insert some pictures here during
this song, of Christ healing the sick, preaching,
blessing etc... on overhead. I just had them sit
and listen to the song.)
-
#5 song on CD (Instrumental of
Power in His Touch - 4.25 min) will begin as you change
to transparency Page 5 (Do you seek a God of
miracles? Scripture read page). The
sisters will be looking up and reading a story in the
scriptures and writing in their booklets during this
song.
-
#6 song on CD (My Peace - 5 min)
will begin as you change to transparency Page 6 (Do
you find yourself in places..). Sisters
will ponder and write in booklet during song.
-
#7 song on CD (Gethsemane - 4.5
min) will begin as you change to transparency Page 7
(Please read in your scriptures).
Sisters will read in scriptures and ponder during song.
-
Immediately after Gethsemane song
PUSH PAUSE on
your CD player. Change transparency to Page
8 (Watch now as we go back...) and turn on the
TV/VCR to the clip of the Savior being crucified (Lamb
of God Video). Sisters will view this video clip.
Play it to the end of the video (where they find the
tomb empty) and then turn off TV/VCR.
-
Put Page 9 Transparency (Someday
He Will Come) on the overhead as you start the CD
player on song #8 (Some Day He Will Come - 4 min). The
sisters will read along with the music...words are in
their booklets.
-
When CD song #9 begins
(Instrumental of My Peace - 5 min) put on overhead page
10 transparency (The scripture stories Luke
shares...). During this final song of the lesson the
sisters will write their thoughts and feelings.
This concludes the silent lesson.
If you are right on time, you can stop the CD after this
song and have a prearranged sister come up and give the
closing prayer. If you have additional time left
and there are still sisters writing in their booklets, I
have added a few more songs to the end of the CD.
Just let it keep playing until you are ready to
conclude.

Instructions to be printed on the PROGRAM
and handed to the sisters as they arrive.

Our lesson
today is one of quiet reflection, hoping to give you
a moment of listening, watching, pondering, reading and
recording your own thoughts about Christ and the
sincerity
and depths of your own beliefs in Him.
Be
still....Be quiet and allow the Spirit the
opportunity to testify of our Savior.
May this
experience instill in your soul a greater testimony
of our Savior and his complete love for you.
Please come
in, find a seat and quietly listen to
the beautiful music.
The lyrics will testify that in
this very room....Jesus Is Here.
The Booklet and
Transparencies
The transparencies coincide with
the booklet. When a transparency is changed, that
is the notice that it is time to turn the page. I
have attached below, the first page of the booklet and
transparencies. I have then summarized the
remaining pages of the booklet and transparencies.
Have you been listening
to the words of this song?
"In this very room, there's
quite
enough hope and quite enough power
to chase away any gloom.....
for Jesus, Lord Jesus,
is in this very room."
How can we
know that Jesus is in
this very room?
Is it even important to know "how"?
Sometimes we don't have to know
exactly how or why something exists.
We just know, and feel, that it does.

Page 2
- In the scriptures, a young woman was
chosen to be the mother of the Savior of the World.
Can you even imagine the love and the responsibility she
must have felt as she held her precious baby in her
arms?
As you listen to this lullaby think about this faithful
woman of God.....Mary.
Page 3
- Please open your scriptures to Luke 1:26-35.
Read these verses & write down your thoughts to the
questions below.
Do you think Mary really understood all that the angel
Gabriel told her? Why or why not?
And yet, what was her
response? Read Luke 1:38
When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she
would bring forth a son, she did not ask, "Why me?". She
did not argue. She did not doubt. She did not hesitate.
She simply said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it
unto me according to thy word." Mary believed that it
would happen. How can we take Mary's example and make it
be a part of our lives?
When you are finished,
please close your scriptures.
Page 4
- Do you seek a God of miracles?
Where can you find him?
Listen to this beautiful message....
"Come find Him and feel the Power of His Touch".
(Picture of Savior with a child.)
Page 5
- Do you seek a God of miracles?
Where can you find him?
The scriptures testify to the Power of His Touch. Come
to Him through the scriptures...there you will find Him,
there you will know Him and there the greatest miracle
of all will happen within your soul.
Through the scriptures, our Savior healed the sick, the
dead he raised and the multitude he fed.
Please open your scriptures and read Luke 8:43-48.
Sometimes we have faith to believe things without seeing
them.
This woman BELIEVED that if she just touched the
Master's robe, she would be healed.
What are you
willing to do to feel that kind of faith?
Page 6
- Do you find yourself in places of darkness from time
to time?
Do mortal trials weaken your faith and bring turmoil to
your spirit?
When your heart is troubled, how do you find peace?
Can you think of
experiences in your life where the Comforter
was near and He brought you peace? (Picture
of Christ)
Page 7
- Please read in your
scriptures Luke 22:39-44
Can you see Christ kneeling in the Garden?
Can you feel his torment....his pain?
Our Savior prayed in agony that if it could be
possible...to remove the "bitter cup". He
trembled....great drops of blood flowed from every
pore....yet He submitted to the Father..."Thy will be
done".
Can you see Him in the Garden?
Can you
even imagine how much He must love YOU
to suffer so much pain for YOU.
Page 8
- Watch now as we go back in time and experience what it
might have been like when the time had finally come for
the Savior
to lay down His life for us.
Clear your mind, open your heart
and feel with your soul..........
Let the Spirit testify of
the Savior's LOVE for YOU!!
Page 9
- Someday He will come Sure as we live and breathe
One day every man and woman living on the earth will see
His face...Someday.
Someday He will come Sure as the seasons change
He will call the children to Him He will bless the souls
of every race
Someday.
When He comes the world will melt away
Earthly things will slip right through our hands
Leaving just our hearts to stand before him
Just our lives to speak for what we've done...What we've
become.
Someday He will come, Sure as the end of day
When I humbly bow before Him
Will He find me worthy of His mercy and His grace.
I will speak of Him with every breath I will seek His
spirit all my days.
Everything I am I will surrender Just to know Him when
this life is done
When He comes again......Someday.
(Picture of Christ....I had a picture of a small girl
looking at Christ's wounded hand from the Classiclips
Inspirational Images.)
Page 10
- The
scripture stories Luke shares with us of Christ are
true. Mary believed that her son
would be the Messiah. The holy scriptures
testify that Christ was born, He was a gentle carpenter
who grew in spirit to heal the sick, raise the dead and
atone for our sins.
Do you Believe?
Does your Savior know
that you Believe?
Please take a quiet
moment to feel the Spirit witness to you the truth......
The truth that you are a daughter of God and are of
infinite worth....
The truth that Christ believed in your worth and died
for you.....
The truth that You
Believe in Christ!!!
Please write down
your feelings:

The music I used came from the
following Artists (I purchased CD's through Deseret Book
Store:
"In This Very Room" - Gibbons
Family or Sharlene Wells Hawks
"Someday He Will Come" - Felicia
Sorenson
All other songs were from the CD "Power in His Touch" -
Colette Call
The clip-art that I used on the
transparencies (except for Mary/Baby) came from
Classiclips Inspirational Images-Bright Impressions
You can get this clipart CD at Deseretbook.com or
through
http://www.brightimpressions.com
Video - "Lamb of God" - Church
Distribution Center (your ward library may have a copy)
I bought ink-jet printer
transparencies for the overhead projector at our local
office supply store. I just printed each
transparency out from my printer. If you have
Power Point capabilities or a DVD projector, you could
burn a CD with your files from a word processing program
and project them that way. (That really sounds
like I am smart.....but in reality I have no idea what I
just said....that is why I used transparencies and an
ancient overhead projector.)
You are welcome to contact Deb at
Lilies Lane if you have any questions.
